There are only 5 withdrawals after 12 days into the 2012 Vuelta a EspaƱa. Velofacts checked if that number of withdrawals is really that exceptional.

Since 1998 the lowest number was 11 in the 2006 Tour de France. The average is 25 withdrawels. The most withdrawals (62) were in the 1998 Vuelta.

The withdrawals:

  • Stage 1 – GASPAROTTO, Enrico – collarbone

  • Stage 8 – DUMOULIN, Tom – deep cut
  • Stage 12 – GADRET, John – acute ulcer
